Scholarships of Dr. Marija Veljača Foundation

Dr. Marija Veljaca Foundation was established on March 11, 2005 in memory of Dr. Marija Veljača, a medical doctor and a research scientist in the field of gastroenterology.

The purpose of the foundation is to raise funding and provide assistance to individuals who are pursuing a career in medicine or research science and whose primary goal is to help others, by providing such individuals with:

• scholarships to assist with medical school tuition;
• funds for books, publications, magazines, lab fees and the like while attending medical school;
• funds for living expenses while attending medical school; and
• other similar sources of support.

Scholarship

In honor of Dr. Marija Veljača’s Croatian origins and the training she acquired in Croatia, first as a medical student and later as a scientist, the foundation will award a scholarship in its initial year to a qualified medical student or medical research student with Croatian heritage.

• payment type: the scholarship is in US $. The amount will be paid in one installment by check or wire transfer.

Eligible candidates

• medical students and research scientists in the area of medical sciences attending an accredited program.

Selection criteria

• Academic excellence as evident from the Grade Point Average, letters of recommendations and past awards received
• Commitment to helping others as evident from the personal statement and letters of recommendation
• Need of financial support as evident from the personal statement and letters of recommendation
