Description

This European Master of Comparative Vertebrate morphology trains competences related to morphological techniques, scientific skills in the domain of vertebrate morphology, the development of animal and in vitro models and advising on the design of an animal and in vitro model. Moreover, EUCOMOR covers the structure/development of different vertebrates

In a survey with different stakeholders in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy and Poland, potential students indicated that this curriculum would improve their career opportunities due to a thorough knowledge on morphology in view of animal experimental research or education, the focus on skills within this domain and the attention for ‘soft’ skills. Also employers depicted that a master of Comparative Morphology is valuable for ensuring further progress in biomedical animal experimental research, imaging and education.
 

Eligibility

Bachelor degree (min 180 ECTS) c.q. degrees that give direct admission to the master programme:

Bachelor of science in Veterinary Medicine
Bachelor of science in Biomedical Sciences
Bachelor of science in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Bachelor of science in Biology
Bachelor of science in Medicine
Bachelor of science in Dentistry
Bachelor of science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology
Bachelor of science in Bio-engineering Sciences
Bachelor of science in Chemistry

The students must proof his proficiency in the language of education (English) by:

Giving proof that English is his native language is English.
TOEFL certificate (min 580 on a written test or 237 on a computer based test or min 92 on the internet-based test)
IELTS with a min score of 6.5

Scholarship

Category A is for so-called ‘3rd country’ students. These students are defined as students from all countries in the world, except the EU member states, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), Switzerland, Turkey and a number of Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia). 3rd country applicants may not be residents of the latter countries or have carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than 12 months over the last five years in these countries. These scholarships should be considered as ‘full scholarships’. For each ‘Category A’ applicant the scholarship amounts to 23000 Euro per academic year. This includes 4000 Euro for travel and installation costs, 7000 Euro for academic and insurance costs (incl. the tuition fee) and 12 monthly grants of 1000 Euro.

Category B is for all other student applicants, including European students. These scholarships should be considered as financial contributions. For each ‘Category B’ applicant the scholarship amounts to 9300 Euro. This includes 3300 Euro for academic and insurance costs (incl. the tuition fee) and 12 monthly grants of 500 Euro. In the academic year 2013-2014 this amount is increased with 3000 Euro since one term is spent in a 3rd country university (Xiamen Univerity in the P.R. China).

How to apply?

Firstly, student candidates have to apply to and be accepted by the Consortium. The University of Antwerp acts as coordinator of the Consortium. All applications for scholarships have to be addressed to this university.
