Applications are invited for the post of Erasmus Mundus CITRINE PhD Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS)in International Political Economy and International Security and Development.
You will be part of the Department's Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Degree Programme. GEM ('Globalisation, the European Union and Multilateralism') is an integrated transnational doctoral research and training programme that enables students to spend year one at PAIS or one of the other core partner universities, followed by a mobility year under supervision at another core partner, followed by a final
year back at the home university (PAIS) or with 6 months at another partner in the consortium. The result is the completion of a jointly supervised doctoral dissertation and a double degree from the home and mobility institution.
PAIS's full partners in the GEM School are the
Free University of Brussels, LUISS Guido Carli in Rome, the University of Geneva and the University of Bielefeld. The wider partners in the GEM programme are Boston (USA), Waseda (Japan), ITAM (Mexico City), Fudan (China) and the United Nations University in Bruges.
You will hold an MA in a relevant discipline (awarded or near completion) and have the ability to act as an independent researcher.
We would particularly welcome applications from female candidates and those from a minority ethnic background, as they are currently under represented within the department.
JOB PURPOSE:
You will undertake innovative, socially impactful, research in International Political Economy. The focus will be on the interaction between different key policymakers, and how they draw on resources from their respective professional networks in order to define how policy problems should be understood in the context of the regulation of dynamic transnational sectors. You will contribute to the development and enhancement of the Department’s reputation for international research excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research
- To pursue a programme of doctoral research that will make a ground-breaking contribution to research in International Political Economy. The focus will be on the interaction between different key policymakers, and how they draw on resources from their respective professional networks in order to define how policy problems should be understood in the context of the regulation of dynamic transnational sectors.
- The doctoral candidate will be expected to address the research question of how do governments regulate fast-moving transnational sectors of the economy while accounting for national differences in norms and attitudes. The research will address and examine the case of transnational regulatory efforts to combat intellectual property rights infringement on the internet in the EU and investigate how professional coordination on intellectual property rights protection on the internet is mediated by cultural and institutional contexts.
- To contribute to the development of the Department’s research clusters in International Political Economy in order to enhance its international reputation and research output.
- To attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences, and to contribute to the external visibility of the Department.
- To function as an independent doctoral researcher, including managing their research project and meeting deadlines.
