Euroculture – Erasmus Mundus Master of Arts

Description
In 2005 the Euroculture Master was selected by the European Commission among one of the first Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses (EMMC), for which the Euroculture consortium received funding from 2006 to 2011. It has again been selected for 5 years of funding in the second phase of the Erasmus Mundus Programme, which covers the period 2012-2017.

The Erasmus Mundus Programme supports European top-quality Masters Courses and enhances the visibility and attractiveness of European higher education in third countries. It fosters cooperation between higher education institutions and academic staff in European and Third Countries with a view to creating poles of excellence and providing highly trained human resources. Joint programmes must involve mobility between the institutions of the consortium and lead to the award of recognised joint, double or multiple degrees to successful students / doctoral candidates.

The Euroculture programme consists of a consortium of eight European universities and four non-European universities. The consortium coordinating university is the University of Groningen.

The Euroculture student makes use of the consortium in the following way:

  • the Euroculture student starts at one European partner university (home university)
  • moves to another partner university (host university) in the second semester
  • participates in the Intensive Programme at one of the European partner universities
  • during the third semester, the student’s mobility depends on the track chosen, professional (placement) or research, the latter can be taken at either an European partner university or, in case of a European student, a non-European partner university
  • the Euroculture student returns in the fourth semester to either his/her home or host university

Eligibility
The Erasmus Mundus Programme provides EU-funded scholarships for Third Country students (Category A) and European students (Category B) who have applied to and have been accepted by the Euroculture Master Course.

Third-country graduate student means a national of a third country other than those from EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey); who has already obtained a first higher education degree; who is not a resident of any of the Member States or the participating countries (EEA-EFTA States and EU candidate countries for accession); who has not carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the Member States or the participating countries.

European student means a person who is a national or a resident of any of the EU Member States, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey) and who has already obtained a first higher education degree.
