Erasmus Mundus Masters Scholarships in Geospatial Technologies for International Students
Applications are invited for Erasmus Mundus scholarship for Master of Science program in Geospatial Technologies. The three-semester Masters program will enroll up to 32 students per year. Students will attend the first semester in Lisbon or Castellón, the second semester in Münster. The third semester (Master thesis) can be performed at each of the three partner universities. Based on the successful Master examination, the three universities will award the joint degree “Master of Science” (M.Sc.) with the adjunct “in Geospatial Technologies”. Online application must be submitted by January 15, 2014.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing masters degree at University of Münster (WWU) and Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi), Münster in Germany, Jaume I University (UJI), Castellón, Dept. Languages and Computer Systems (LSI), Castellón in Spain, New University of Lisbon or NOVA (UNL),Institute of Statistics and Information Management (ISEGI), Lisboa, Portugal.
Eligibility:-Erasmus Mundus Masters consortia will ensure that selected students and visiting professors meet the definition established above. Non-compliance may lead to the cancellation of the scholarship awarded to a student or scholar. However, students may be admitted conditionally to Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses, and selected conditionally for scholarships, on the basis that the scholarship only becomes effective when the students fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
-Without prejudice to the respect of high academic standards, in order to ensure a geographical balance across students and scholars, Erasmus Mundus Masters consortia shall respect the following basic criteria:
•No more than 2 of the selected students should come from the same country.
•No more than 1 of the selected visiting professors should come from the same institution.
- The basis of all scholarship contracts is the contract between the European Commission and the University of Münster. This contract (FPA-2012-0191) is an integrated part of the grant contracts. No responsibility is taken for the correctness of the information above. The only legally binding documents are the grant contracts.
Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Category A scholarships are open to third country students (a national from other countries than EU Member States or EEA-EFTA States or Croatia) and students from the “Windows”: Window 1: Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo) and Turkey, Window 2: ENPI South window: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Occupied Palestinian Territory and Window 3: ENPI East window: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine and Category B scholarships are open to the EU (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and UK) students.
Scholarship Description: The Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies qualifies for a professional career in the following domains:
•Private sector: GI applications and consulting in the domains of regional planning, landscape planning, financial services industry, energy providing industry, transportation, agriculture and forestry, and retailing/marketing;
•Research: Applied sciences at universities and other research institutions.
•Public sector: GI applications and consulting in local and regional administrations, especially in cadastre and different types of planning (e.g., regional, traffic, ecology). The Master program targets holders of a Bachelors with a qualification in application areas of Geographic Information (GI), e.g., environmental planning, regional planning, geography, logistics, transportation, marketing, energy provision, computer science. It is recommended to have acquired already some basic skills in computer science and/or geo informatics before the start of the Masters program.
Number of award(s): 32 scholarships will be offered.
Duration of award(s): The three-semester Masters program will enroll up to 32 students per year. Language of instruction is English. Students will attend the first semester in Lisbon or Castellón, the second semester in Münster. The third semester (Master thesis) can be performed at each of the three partner universities.
What does it cover? Erasmus Mundus scholarships for third country students and students from the “Windows” (Category A scholarships): Scholarships for the three-semesters Erasmus Mundus Masters Course are (numbers to be confirmed):
•Contribution to travel, installation and all other types of costs, 2 x 4.000 €, 8.000 € in total
•Monthly allowances of 1.000 € per month, 18.000 € in total
•Coverage of tuition fees of 3.500 € per semester, 10.500 € in total
•Insurance package, i.e., health insurance. The scholarship is a full scholarship, meant to cover ALL costs (e.g., tuition fees, traveling, visa costs, accommodation, living expenses, etc.). There will be no further funding. The study program requires that students provide appropriate laptop computers (laptop with an Intel I3 processor (or similar) with 4 GB of RAM and 200 Gb of HD.). Those students granted by the Erasmus Mundus program who do not possess an appropriate laptop must buy one from the ERASMUS scholarship before starting the study program. If necessary, UJI and ISEGI can facilitate the procurement. Erasmus Mundus financial contributions for EU students (Category B scholarships): Financial contributions for the three-semesters Erasmus Mundus Masters Course are (numbers to be confirmed),
•Monthly allowances of 500 € per month, 9.000 € in total
•Coverage of tuition fees of 1.500 € per semester, 4.500 € in total
•Insurance package, i.e., health insurance. The study program requires that students provide appropriate laptop computers. Those students granted by the Erasmus Mundus program who do not possess an appropriate laptop (Pentium 4) must buy one from the ERASMUS scholarship before starting the study program. If necessary, UJI and ISEGI can facilitate the procurement.
Erasmus Mundus scholarships for third country visiting professors (= scholars): Scholarships for visiting professors (2-4 months) are 7.200 – 12.000 € in total (numbers to be confirmed), distributed in periodic payments. The scholarship is a lump sum, meant to cover ALL costs (e.g., traveling, visa costs, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, etc.). Visiting professors apply for one of the universities with the following requirements and tasks:
•Universidade Nova de Lisbon, ISEGI (beginning/mid September – beginning/mid December 2014, exact dates to be confirmed): Requirement: M.Sc. or PhD in Geo informatics or similar. Tasks: Teaching, assist with the supervision of Masters Projects.
•Universitat Jaume I (beginning/mid September – beginning/mid December 2014, exact dates to be confirmed): Requirement: M.Sc. or PhD in Geo informatics or similar. Tasks: Teaching, assist with the supervision of Masters Projects.
Selection Criteria: The students’ application will be evaluated by an equal number of representatives of the three partner universities. Evaluation criteria are:
•Bachelor degree (grade)
•Bachelor degree (relevance of study program)
•English language skills
•Professional or other experience in GI application areas
•Basic skills in GI and/or IT
•Motivation for the study program
•Social and multi-cultural competencies
•Formal aspects of application
Notification: Applicants will be notified from end of April – mid May.
