PhD in Storage and Smart Grid Modelling
Ispra, Italy
Announcement follows
The Smart Electricity Systems and Interoperability (SESI) Action of the Energy Security Unit performs independent scientific research on the on-going transformations of
smart electricity systems. SESI provides scientific and techno-economic support to policy Directorates-General (notably DG ENER), on smart electricity grids, power systems and trans-European networks. SESI has developed a Smart
Grid Simulation Centre hosting several tools and resources to thoroughly analyse and quantify features of stronger and smarter electricity systems.
Energy storage and electric vehicles represent strategic resource for the management of the power systems and have the potential to become a critical enabler for the development of innovative decentralised delivery schemes.
Taking stock of the potential technical and economic benefits of electricity storage and electric vehicles, the SESI Action is looking for a candidate who will model the integration of electric vehicles into smart grids, and assess the techno-economic capabilities of the power
systems and markets, and their related risks and benefits.
He/She will investigate the behaviour of storage and electric vehicles embedded in smart grids developing models, tools and experiments.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a university degree giving access to doctoral studies in the area of engineering, physics or economics.
Knowledge of power systems, computer modelling, and/or systems integration is an asset.
A good knowledge of spoken and written English is mandatory.
