FULBRIGHT – CROATIAN AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING (CAFET)

MASTER’S STUDY IN THE UNITED STATES

the competition is open from MARCH 1 – MAY 1, 2011.

The Embassy of the United States of America, the Croatian American Foundation for Education and Training (CAFET), and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports are pleased to announce the competition for the Fulbright - CAFET Scholarships in the United States for the 2012-13 academic year. Scholarships are awarded competitively to Croatian citizens for one or two-year, academic, Master’s degree programs at American universities, depending on the availability of funds.  The Fulbright - CAFET scholarships aim to advance public service sector in Croatia.

ELIGIBLE FIELDS: law; economics; journalism/communications; environmental studies; energy security/policy; public policy; public administration; public health policy/administration; political science; international relations; educational policy/administration; and agricultural policy/administration.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS:

- Completed undergraduate degree at the time of application
- Croatian citizenship
- Permanent residency in Croatia
- Proficiency in English
- Completed on-line application
- Academic excellence

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS BY DISCIPLINE:

- Law: undergraduate degree must be in law (LLB)
- Public Policy and Public Administration: minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in public or private sectors. Prior academic background in the social sciences is preferred. Successful applicants must have quantitative coursework in their academic transcripts (such as macro or microeconomics, math, or statistics).

TEST REQUIREMENTS:

- Law: TOEFL
- All other fields: TOEFL and GRE general test

NOTE: test scores not required at the time of application - finalists will be invited to take the tests in August/September 2011

PREFERENCE will be given to candidates who have not had extensive recent experience in the United States, and who will receive, upon admission, partial tuition waivers from US universities. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate commitment to public service.

NOT ELIGIBLE: Applicants already in the United States, individuals with dual U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residence status, and teachers/faculty/researchers with no management responsibilities.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND COMPETITION SCHEDULE:

All applications, including references, undergo technical and academic reviews. Candidates who satisfy all requirements will be interviewed by a Croatian and American interviewing team. Based on their recommendation, the American Embassy and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports will select the finalists and submit their names by October 2011 for final approval to the J. William Fulbright Board of Foreign Scholarships in the United States. Selected grantees will be notified of final approval when their affiliations at U.S. universities are confirmed in the Spring of 2012.
