School of Engineering Scholarships for UK/EU and International Students at University of Warwick

University of Warwick is offering scholarships within the School of Engineering. Scholarships are awarded for a project entitled “Adsorption refrigeration/heat pumping innovations in sorption generator design”. The Scholarship will pay an annual stipend at the standard rate (currently £13,726) and tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for three years. Overseas students may apply and if successful would be required to make up the difference in fees between the home and the overseas rates. The application deadline is 30th June 2014.

Scholarship Description: University of WarwickThis award is funded by the School of Engineering in support of the RCUK funded Interdisciplinary Centre for Storage, Transformation and Upgrading of Thermal Energy (i-STUTE). The energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of adsorption refrigerator or heat pump systems depend critically on the heat and mass transfer within the sorption vessel together with its thermal mass. A ‘good design’ depends on integrating the conflicting requirements of enhanced heat transfer, good mass transfer, low thermal mass , corrosion resistance, resistance to extreme thermal and pressure cycling, all with the overarching constraint of low production cost. The project can deal with one or more of these areas as it develops, for example, enhancing heat transfer, novel mechanical design and manufacturing techniques, optimisation for different refrigerants (low pressure methanol v. high pressure ammonia), or alternative thermodynamic cycles. Whatever the detailed topic there will be the need for computational modelling (writing code in Matlab or similar), experimental design and testing.

Duration of award(s): Scholarships are offered for three years.

What does it cover? The Scholarship will pay an annual stipend at the standard rate (currently £13,726) and tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for three years.

How to Apply: You must submit the online application and upload your CV and transcripts. You must complete the online application form quoting scholarship reference: REC-iSTUTE.
