Aims and Objectives
The Pannonia Research Awards are designed to encourage research and publishing activities in the academic areas offered by the programmes of study of the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. With the creation of these awards, persons who have achieved excellent standards in the research and development areas prioritised by the study programmes, should be supported and gain recognition for their endeavours.
Eligibility Criteria
The Pannonia Research Awards are targeted towards both experienced and junior researchers whose work fulfils either the category of “research excellence” or of “applied academic theory transfer”.
Criteria for the work are that the research
- area falls within the applied research and development concepts
of the different study specialisms offered by the University of
Applied Sciences Burgenland - is presented in German or English and that the formal aspects of
academic writing conventions are adhered to - should comprise approximately 10 pages and be not older than
two years. Further, that the content and form should be at a level
of similar works published in appropriate academic literature dealing
with business or practical applications.
The following additional information should accompany the application, which should be submitted in written form, in addition to a CD-ROM:
- Name and address of the institution (including telephone number
and e-mail address) - Name and address of the researcher(s) (including telephone number
and e-mail address) - Under which research category it is being submitted.
- Selection of the applications received will be made by an academic
jury using a double blind system. Originality, academic quality and
applicability will be taken into consideration. (No legal recourse is allowed).
Researcher Target Group
Entries for the Pannonia Research Awards will be welcomed from lecturers (full and part-time), researchers and junior researchers (graduates, students) from the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, in addition to their contracted partners from central and eastern European universities or higher education institutions (e.g Socrates or CEEPUS partners).
Awards
Financial prizes totalling €8.000 are available for the recipients of the awards, in addition to their research being published in a collection of all selected works.

Research Day
The presentation of the works submitted, along with the notification of the prize-winners, will take place under the auspices of a “Research Day” (“Forschungstag”) held by the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland, in autumn 2007. In addition to the individual prize money (from €500–€2000), all the prize-winners will have the opportunity to present their research to the wider public. Further, they will be invited to participate in a “Pannonia Research Dinner”, along with representatives from the world of research, business and politics.
