PhD Scholarships at Niels Bohr Institute, Denmark

Description

The center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute is offering two scholarships positions for three or four years and it is expected that they lead to a Ph.D. degree at the University of Copenhagen.

The announced positions are in experimental semiconductor-based quantum information processing. Research involves experimental design, fabrication of submicron devices and associated electronics, radio-frequency measurement in a dilution refrigerator, data acquisition and analysis, and scientific writing. The Ph.D. program, in addition to the project work, comprises participation in courses or international Ph.D. schools and some activity as teaching assistant.

The position starts on 6 January 2014.
 

Scholarship

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Currently, starting salaries are about 25,000 DKK (€ 3,330) per month plus full benefits including pension.
 

Eligibility

The position is open for candidates of all nationalities with no age limit.

Applicants must have:

  • completed at least one year of a relevant M. Sc. Degree, or, for US applicants, an Undergraduate Degree in a related area, at the time of start of the appointment;
  • strong background in physics at the masters level;
  • advanced coursework in quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics;
  • significant experimental experience;
  • experience and coursework in electronics is also helpful.
